Marcos Motta, the founding partner of Bichara and Motta Advogados, earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Contemporary Business Law and a Master’s degree (LL.M) in International Economic Law from the University of Warwick in England. He also possesses an honorary Master’s degree in International Law from the Superior Institute de Derecho y Economia-ISDE in Spain and a Certificate of Negotiation and Leadership from Harvard Law School.
Marcos Motta has been involved in the sports industry since 1997, when he started his career as Director and International Representative for C.R. Flamengo. He is a former legal advisor of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) for International Affairs, and now serves as Vice President of Administration under Luiz Eduardo Baptista’s “BAP” presidency. Motta is also a board member of the Brazilian Triathlon Federation, which is affiliated with the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB).
Since then, he has acted as a legal adviser in numerous cases and arbitrations before both national and international courts, managing a variety of contractual, commercial, disciplinary, and regulatory disputes. He is also a respected figure in the entertainment sector, advising high-profile clients in film, television, and fashion.
Marcos Motta has advised on major commercial transactions in the global sports sector, including the notable transfer of Neymar to PSG in 2017 and to Al Hilal in 2023. He also participated in the Brazilian Government’s working group that examined the “Pelé Law” in 2008, the FIFA Working Group that established regulations for “TPO”, and CBF’s 2026 Task Force on Football Financial Sustainability (Financial Fair Play).
He is a highly esteemed academic who frequently delivers lectures at leading educational institutions across Brazil, Europe, and the United States, including Escuela Universitaria Real Madrid, CBF Academy, ISDE, La Liga, FIFA, and ESADE. His areas of expertise are in sports and entertainment.
Since 2014, Marcos Motta has been recognised annually by respected publications such as Leaders League, Chambers & Partners, Legal 500 and Who’s Who Legal (Lexology) as one of the industry’s global leaders. WWL has also awarded him the title of “Thought Leader.”
